Landis Graduation

Pictures from our trip to Clarksville for Landis' nursing school graduation & pinning and lots of grandbabies! We really enjoyed getting to be there for Landis' pinning ceremony. It was special to be able to participate and we are so proud of her. It took lots of hard work to go through the one year crunch program and with 4 children, including a little baby, and a husband is Afghanistan, she came out with a 93 average (and just a point under a 94) so she did great. It was fun and we enjoyed seeing the kids and you will see from these photos. If you click on the photo about, it should take you to an album on Picasa Web Albums so you can see them all. It was a good trip, but as you all know, there is no place like home.

Update on Preemie baby - Little Marlee

Here's a pic of Marlee who's about 1 mo. old now. Weighs just a little over 5 lbs. Is doing great - I saw her for the first time today and she is just perfect - beautiful skin, pretty little long slender fingers and toes and she's just wonderful. God is good.

My friend Darlene is having her baby about 6 wks early. She's been in the hospital for a number of days already as they decided not to let her go home til the baby comes. Her blood pressure has been out of control. Day before yesterday they decided the baby was showing signs of anxiety so they were to either c-section or induce depending on the baby's position. I guess it was head down as that was to take place yesterday and as of today still no baby yet. She's going to have her 13 yr old daughter let me know when they baby comes. Please pray for .....well all of you know exactly what they all need. Darlene is 40 yrs old and this is her second child - she just recently remarried. Blessings are needed for everyone including her mom & dad - they've been living with them til their house gets ready - so everyone is very close. We will be grateful for a healthy, fighting little baby girl. I will let you know what happens.

Philip's injured arm

Philip hurt his arm attempting to pick up a piece of plywood he had cut from the porch roof - he apparently grabbed it wrong and said it felt like a lightening bolt went all the way up his arm - he dropped it immediately but not quick enough. We went to the minor medical & the doctor said it was pulled muscle - not serious - she put him through range of motion, etc. It looks awful and these pics were taken 10 days after the injury! Wow. He is going to start working that arm a little to get his strength back! Poor baby!

Well, shoot, the pics are backwards from the order I wanted - obviously the old yellow vinyl is the BEFORE and the cool cow print is the AFTER. This chair belongs to our friend Peggy who just moved to Indiana. She asked Philip about recovering it and we selected the cow print vinyl and I just loved it. It looks great and is MUCH less expensive than actual cowhide! He's going to put some of this on my little cube footstool so I can enjoy a bit of it at home too!

Catching up - computer back up & running

Well, ever since we got back from Monteagle our computer has been in the shop. Now, we are back and here's an update. The church above is the Episcopal cathedral on the Sewanee College campus in Sewanee, TN at Monteagle Mountain. We go there just about every time we're there to just gaze at the incredible stained glass which goes all the way down both sides and at both ends of the church. Each stained glass has a story or theme - the ones down the sides represent all categories such as literature, science, theology, philosophy etc. and at the front is the round rose window. The entire campus is just a fantastic place. We go into the book store there and browse and go down into the little "town" and shop in the gift shops and cafe. We enjoyed our semi-annual trip there and will look forward to the next one in November. More later. Love to all.

Can't wait for the weekend. I've got to get some sunflower seeds planted so they can start to sprout so we can grow some of these beauties again this year! It is supposed to be a fantastic weekend.

Please pray for our friend Jim and his family as he has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer - it's in multiple places including lungs, bone, etc - and he'll undergo some experimental treatment. He is just the nicest man you could know.

Please pray for Bob Taillon's family as he was killed in an accident when he and his wife, Rene, were riding their Harley Davidson motorcycle Saturday evening; a 17 yr old girl turned left directly in front of them - turning from the right lane - and either didn't look or didn't see them - they were going about 40 mph and did not have time to brake before the collision. Bob was a good man, a former marine, a retired guy working part time at the Bumpus Harley Davidson store and loving his life and his wife and riding on beautiful days. He attended Heartsong Church for several years and has lots of friends both from Heartsong and our fellowship. He will be missed. Please pray for the young girl and her family too. We know it will be terrible for them as well. Tell those you love you love them every day, in every way. You never know what a day will bring. Live, love and laugh.

The women's conference in Taccoa, GA was fun and my friend, Joyce, and I had a good time. It was at a very fantastic facility and we had the VIP room which was very nice. We had a gourmet meal Thurs. night and the rest of the weekend had delicious buffet meals and desserts not to mention the hospitality room that was full of all kinds of goodies. Still, it was good to get back home and see my honey. We've never been apart that long in 15 yrs! So, I'm glad to be home and right now I hear him singing in the shower!!!

Yes, TJ is now in Afghanistan near Kabul and he did feel the earthquake. It woke him up! He will be keeping Landis posted as much as possible although getting an internet connection is sporadic and he was able to get a cellphone there but it will be expensive to call. If he can access internet, they can communicate online through Skype which is great - phone/video and its' free I understand. They have already done that some while he was in Kuwait. Modern technology! So, continue to remember TJ and all our soldiers while they are serving our country. Thanks.

I've heard nothing from Landis yet - however, as far as I know, TJ is still in either Kuwait (where he was first send for staging/preparing to Afghanistan) or at the "in between place" which we are apparently now allowed to know the exact location. Last I heard they were possibly to remain in the "in between place" because of danger to fly them into Afghanistan. I'll let y'all know more when I have an update.

Book Nut

Well, I am a book nut. I'm always carrying around a book to read at lunch (and sometimes more than one!) I've got 2 or 3 going at a time these days (which I used to not allow myself to do). So, for Mother's Day my wonderful husband got me a Kindle2. (Photo above). If you don't know about it, a Kindle is an electronic reading device. This is the coolest thing ever! It will hold about 1500 books. It has a built in dictionary which you can use right where you are in the text, you can highlight, make clippings and even write notes where you are in the text. It remembers where you were when you last stopped reading so when you turn it back on you're right there. It will even read aloud to you. Once I figure out how to do it, you can even put MP3 files on it and listen to music while you read. It also will let you search Wikipedia and Google - these are experimental applications they are working on. Just incredible.
I just finished The Kitchen Boy (about Russian Tsar Nicholas II and his family - one of my very favorite subjects on which I have read many books) and am now reading For Whom the Bell Tolls - I have never read any Heminway before! I have the entire Bible on my Kindle (New Living Translation) and a collection of Dostoevsky as well as Alcoholics Anonymous, The Year with C. S. Lewis for a little daily meditation, and the Three Muskateers for some future day. I really want to read the Count of Monte Cristo but I found the Muskateers for free so I put it on there. You just search the Kindle store and buy your book and it downloads it to your Kindle in about 60 seconds. The entire Bible downloaded in 60 seconds! Can you believe that? You don't even have to be connected to a computer. It is a wireless connection direct to Amazon.com. As you can tell, I am thrilled to death with this little dumplin' and will be reading a lot!!!
This thing is small and compact and comfortable to hold, very easy to use and the new "paper technology" is awesome. Even in bright sunlight there is no problem seeing it at all. Not backlit like a computer screen. It looks just like a book page. I had already recently bought some books from Amazon before getting my Kindle so I'll have to read Liberal Facism and The 5000 Year Leap the old fashioned way, but oh I wish I had them on my Kindle! I'll have to be careful not to spend a fortune now on putting a library on it!
Anyway, hope you are all doing happy reading too.

The Past Weekend

We went to Monteagle, TN this past weekend for our semi-annual retreat/conference on Monteagle Mountain. Its a beautiful place and very peaceful weekend - it rained the whole time this time but we still went down to Sewanne College and went to the cathedral and shopped at the bookstore and the little gift shops, and to Hammers and found some bargains. Here's a photo of Phil next to a carving that is on the side the building at Dubose Conference Center where we have the retreat. We had fun. It was good to get home. It was also good to have our air conditioning system replaced (again) on Monday so we can be cool whenever it actually gets warm again!

Tax Day Tea Party & more

Philip & I joined some friends for the Memphis Tax Day Tea Party and the front page of the newspaper the next morning had this photo - I'm in the far left lower corner in the red jacket and our friends Joyce (green sweater, Paul Revere hat! & Steve (Greed sign) are right there with me. It was an interesting thing to do, we had a great turn out and I felt good for participating!

Also, Gen turned 6 mos old this week (the 15th) and here are her latest smiling photos!

It's beautiful here today and I can't wait to get home and enjoy the afternoon/evening. Our neighborhood yard sale is tomorrow morning and it's going to rain in the afternoon, so need to make the most of this beautiful weather while possible.

Easter Weekend

We had a nice Easter weekend and hope you did too. We visited a new church, Great Commission, in Olive Branch and it was good. So close to home and like our beloved Heartsong - casual and rock & roll praise! We had friends over for lunch in the afternoon and enjoyed the evening.

Here's a photo of the turtles sunning themselves on the boat dock out back. Spring is fun as all the wildlife gets active, if you know what I mean, and we have Mallards building nests under our willow tree and will have baby duckies to watch soon.

Good Friday

It's Good Friday and I'm at work but looks like most people aren't. I used to have this day off but no more. I could have taken a vacation day, but since losing half my vacation time in the job change, I decided I better hold onto some days for later in the year to cover all our adventures, conventions, etc. It's gray out and pretty quiet. I am looking forward to the weekend, a big get together tomorrow evening with a bonfire up in Fisherville and Easter Sunday. I'm hoping Mom is getting well and feeling up to an Easter Sunday visit!

Here's a photo of the boat Adam is now on and we hope he'll have a good experience, get settled in and be able to get back to enjoying his work after his recent change of vessels.

A little tweaking

Ok, had to do just a little tweaking to the decorating in the "new" bedroom. The pillow I had on the bed wasn't right - it had a little sort of dark fuscia stripe in it that just threw off the colors of everything else just a bit, so I changed that and I found a lamp that just absolutely belongs in that room with the new browns! So, here's another couple of pics to bring it up to date!

Also, we had a fabulous day today - did my little decorating this morning, got our website for the business updated and took a long ride out in the country in the 1976 Triumph Spitfire convertible! The weather was absolutely perfect today - sunny and not cool or hot - just right! It was great. Stopped on the way home, picked up some steaks and chops and grilled out! Now, dinner's done, and it's time to be mellow, watch some TV and enjoy the evening time!

Sounds exciting, huh? I know, I'm a little weird, but it keeps my mind stimulated and I am a news/political junky, and more lately, more & more history. I've read much Russian history in the past, so now I'm exploring more of the world.
Someday I'll finish the new biography, Einstein, which I'm over half way through, and also the biography, Houdini (same thing); I just keep getting distracted with other stuff and have recently read a few novels (which is not as common for me as non-fiction) and have really enjoyed them.
So that's the news for this Thursday!

Ok Cristi, here you go. Photos of the newly decorated bedroom (& my haircut included). As I said before, the color is richer than it appears in the photos - a bit warmer! It is a very peaceful feeling when you enter the room! I'm lovin' it.

Still haven't re-hung the paintings yet. One has color that I don't think is going to work in there, so we are deciding which art to hang. Then it will look different again!

Adam got on another boat back to work yesterday which was a great relief as there was a problem when he got off two weeks ago and he was uncertain of his status. He was reassigned and boarded a boat yesterday and I'm very relieved. Having had the problem with his job with he and three other men told them may not have jobs, then his Dad died 4 days later and having to deal with all those conflicting emotions, it was a rough trip home for him this time. He did make it up to see Landis this past weekend and their half-brother Tim and his wife came to spend the day with them, so it was good they all had an opportunity to be together again. Johnnie's death has stirred up a lot of strange feelings from sadness at the terrible circumstances of an alcoholic death to relief from years of fear and torment, to the awkwardness of those feelings, and the sadness too that the children will have to deal with the confusion of sorrow, relief and guilt because of the relief. It's a hard thing when someone dies who has alienated everyone who ever tried to love him because people just can't say, oh how he will be missed. Mostly, we can say we can't believe he lived as long as he did, and it's good that he is no longer in misery, and can no longer torment others. Johnnie T. Wilson, Jr., 6/22/46 to 3/7/09 - dead at the age of 62 from hypovolemic shock due to peptic ulcer disease, due to chronic alcoholism, according to the medical examiner. Wow.

We're planning to create an email group of the folks who attended our We Surround Them party Friday night and share our experiences with navigating around the www.the912project.com website and discussing how to become more involved. Someone has already suggested we might want to participate in a Tea Party! We are looking forward to becoming closer to our little group and see what happens.

We painted our bedroom wall Sunday changing it from Hunting Coat Red to Library Mahogany! It's a wonderful, deep chocolate brown and looks great - of course I had to change the bedding etc. so it's a whole newly decorated bedroom and has a very peaceful and sanctuary kind of feel to it and the gold taffeta drapes make for a wonderful, warm glow. Lovin' that.

(I'm at work so don't have a photo here to attach - the ones I took don't do it justice - they make it look darker in there than it actually is - some things you just have to see in person. )

Connect with your family, friends, etc. and be part of taking our country back.
Also, please pray for the mental, spiritual and physical well being of Glenn Beck as he is having much success, much praise, fabulous ratings, people counting on him to be a leader, etc. and I know the government and those in power are feeling threatened by him. We need to lift him up to God who is good and is a power greater even that the almighty US Govt!!!

Our Lake Frozen

Our lake was really frozen this morning - no ducks standing in part ice/part water today. Didn't see any ducks! It rarely freezes over the whole surface so it's interesting ot see. Long day at work, home for dinner & to meet with friend to do step work (finally finished - Step 12) and waiting for Adam to come in some time tonight.

It's blue blazing cold here. I'm attaching photos of ice on the lake - the ducks are standing in the lake! Also, here are some photos of the view from my office window yesterday morning. Life sometimes comes full circle. From my office I can see the Wonder Bread Bakery where my Daddy worked most of his life and where we went to see him as kids. Across the street from the bakery is A S Martin & Sons body shop which was Philip's grandfather's business and is still there today. Wow! Also, from my office I can see the first law office I worked in (at the far right of the photo) and the next law office (at the far left of the photo) where I worked before going to work out in east Memphis where I stayed for 22 years before going back downtown. You never know what life will bring. It's good to have a design for living that really works, to be able to face life on life's terms, to remember that to live fully means to experience some of everything!

Family Drama

Well, if you haven't heard yet, nephew John Dalton's mobile home burned down and he and the little girls got out safely and are looking for new digs! Hopefully, they'll find a new place soon and we can start getting together all the stuff you'd need to start from scratch! It's really mind - boggling when you think of all the stuff you have and actually use daily to keep a home going! Wow. Bless all their hearts and pray for calm, faith, courage and perserverance for all.

Phil's Lodge Installation

Well, Philip was installed as Jr. Warden for 2009 last night at his Masonic Lodge in Horn Lake. We dressed up and went for a BBQ rib dinner and the ceremony. It was interesting. He is learning a lot with this group of men who are all believers and seeking spiritual growth and to help others. Today is the last day of a nice long Christmas holiday weekend and we have enjoyed every minute of it. It was 77 degrees here yesterday until last night when a terrific storm came and it is now about 40 outside! You never know what's coming in this area. It's been a wildly swinging weather season recently.

I'll try to remember to blog more often and add photos (for Cristi!!)

Merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy new year. We are having a pretty mellow weekend - have enjoyed visiting with family, friends, going to meetings, out to eat afterwards and a day of post-Christmas shopping as well as receiving photos from the kids of the grandchildren. Tonight we have a dress up affair as Philip is installed as an officer at the Lodge. It's been a pleasant holiday and we are looking forward to the new year - we are especially going to have to look at how to curb our appetites as we are both eating too much!

These terms are (finally) being used in the media. Some call that an "attack". I just see ideas being discussed which are at the very least being described, in other terms, by persons with potential power and I, for one, am glad to be provoked to thoughtfulness and careful consideration of my choices. If you haven’t already, it is helpful to look at the history of countries which have engaged in Marxism, Socialism and Communism and the societies resulting from those political approaches. I’m just sayin’.

Another dividing feature of the socialist movement is the split on how a socialist economy should be established between the reformists and the revolutionaries. Some socialists advocate complete nationalization of the means of production, distribution, and exchange; while others advocate state control of capital within the framework of a market economy. Social democrats propose selective nationalization of key national industries in mixed economies combined with tax-funded welfare programs; Libertarian socialism (which includes Socialist Anarchism and Libertarian Marxism) rejects state control and ownership of the economy altogether and advocates direct collective ownership of the means of production via co-operative workers' councils and workplace democracy.
In the 1970s and the 1980s, Yugoslavian, Hungarian, Polish and Chinese Communists instituted various forms of market socialism combining co-operative and State ownership models with the free market exchange.[5] This is unlike the earlier theoretical market socialist proposal put forth by Oskar Lange in that it allows market forces, rather than central planners to guide production and exchange.[6] Anarcho-syndicalists, Luxemburgists (such as those in the Socialist Party USA) and some elements of the United States New Left favor decentralized collective ownership in the form of cooperatives or workers' councils.

Well, the new baby is here - Landis' 4th! Genesis Estelle Thomas was born on October 15, 2008 at 11:23 p.m. by C-section after all day (induced labor). Mother and baby (and Dad) are fine and other kids are excited. Phil and I went to Clarksville to visit over the weekend and enjoyed the visit and took photos and also met the other grandparents who are from South Carolina. We are glad Landis will now be able to get a little relief as she was having a lot of discomfort at the end. T.J. is a proud new daddy and is doing a great job taking care of our little Geni. He's changing diapers & everything! She went for her newborn check up today and is doing great.

Phil and I have the Bluff City Fellowship convention this weekend so it will be very busy, particularly as he is the overall Chairman of the convention this year. We'll be at the Hilton in Memphis and are looking forward to seeing all our friends.

Adam is expected home next week and we are looking forward to seeing him. He is anxious to get to see Landis and T.J. and the new baby and the kids. They love their uncle Adam.

My new job is going well and I like it there. Sometimes change is good and I think I was overdue for one. God is good, all the time. Whenever I really get in distress and call on Him, what I hear Him say is "Well, are you going to trust me with it?" Of course, what else is there to do, really?

Wow! Lots of stuff

Wow! A lot has been going on with us. I forget we can post on this blog, so why not do it? My grandmother, "Ma", died last week on Wed., and this was after our niece, Casey, had an emergency c-section on Mon. and delivered a 2 lb. 2 oz baby girl who is still in NICU in Louisiana. She needs lots of prayers but is hanging on and is now gaining weight after losing down to 1 lb. 9 oz. if you an believe that! We had the funeral for Ma on Sat. and saw family members we hadn't seen in years (I mean like 30 yrs for me -some cousins) and so it was both sad and interesting and we are grateful that Ma is no longer just lying there in the nursing home unable to do anything. She is free. Work pretty much sucks. There are too many gory details to go into. Philip & I have been going to a lot more meetings for the last 6-7 months - mostly in Collierville and Cordova as well as our home town/home group in Olive Branch. This is a good thing! Well, more later. I'll make a note to post more often. Love from the Lambs.

Hey there,
Did you see that Glenn Beck special - The Climate of Fear - last night on CCN Headline News? It was very good. I'm glad Glenn is brave enough to put this together considering some people are getting threats for challenging the idea of global warming.
I sent Glenn an email today congratulating him and encouraging him to keep up the good work. If you haven't listened to or watched Glenn yet, check him out on WREC Radio 600 AM and on CNN Headline News at 6, 8 and 11 pm central time. Glenn is a crazy guy, adult with ADD and a recovering alcholic and is a hoot - also a thinker! Its fun to watch. He gets a lot of hate mail so you know he stirs things up.

Hello,
Well, more media frenzy in the wake of the V-Tech shootings. Seems lots of folks out there want to blame anything or anyone except the nut job who killed the people. I am always amazed when the comments start immediately following one of these kind of things about "if only..." then it could have been prevented. Some things cannot be anticipated, and therefore, not prevented, etc. Anyway, it is very sad and when you hear the individual stories, such as the one about the hero Israeli professor trying to protect his students, who blocked the door with his own body so they had time to open windows and escape, and was killed by being shot through the door, it is heartbreaking and one can only imagine the fear experienced by all.
Seems to me that every week the news continues to get worse - all I can think is that JESUS must be coming very soon! This world is MAD!

We've added some links that you might enjoy - the Bible Gateway is a site where you can read the Bible online in a multitude of translations and you can go directly to specific verses etc. It's great.

Also, the Senate link, if I got it right there, is where you can select your senator and send them emails - I usually do this when I'm MAD about something! You know how it is! I do sometimes become provoked by current events!

There's also a link to our Lamb Interiors site and a few other things we like and enjoy or are helpful to us. We'll continue to add things that we think are good to share.

Tired of Demands

I don't know about you, but I am tired of "demands" for apologies. Whatever happened to "free speech" in this country? Apparently, it's only free when spoken by those who want to promote their own agenda, but not free to others with opposite points of view. The latest, the demand for an apology by Gen. Pace, the head of the joint chiefs of staff. Is he not entitled to his own perspective, thoughts, point of view? Just because certain "groups" do not agree with his point of view, they can demand an apology? This country, this whole world, has gone politically correct insane!

Spring

It appears to be spring here - the flowering trees are blossoming and the ducks are acting very ducky! Time goes by, the seasons continue to come and go - interesting how the Good Lord gives us all of what we need - it's spring again, but it's a welcome change. Both the same thing and different - God meeting our needs both for change, relief from our dread of the "same old thing", and the security of knowing night follows day, spring follows winter, over and over again. I read that somewhere during this last year. C. S. Lewis, I think.

The latest good books I've read include The Ezekiel Option and Epicenter, both by Joel Rosenberg, and Waking the Dead by John Eldredge. I also read I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb last year and what a great novel that was.
